ABOUT
The “Uran Biir” [Creative Stroke] Colorado Mongolian Art School was founded in 2006 under the Mongolian Culture and Heritage Center of Colorado. Taught by head instructors artist Tsogo Mijid and Baja Batochir, the Uran Biir school focuses on educating and instilling students with the rich Mongolian history, heritage, and language in effort to help preserve, perpetuate, inspire and foster strong future lineages of educated and empowered Mongolian American global citizens.
Uran Biir runs on an annual semester system with schooling in the Fall and Spring inspired by a tour of world cultures. Each semester the curriculum is designed thematically based on a culture of interest.
We also enter various annual local, national and international student art competitions such as The Federal Duck Stamp Contest and Cray Pas Wonderful Colorful World Contest with our students having won prestigious awards each year. Previous competitions include Google 4 Doogle and Toyota Dream Car competition.
Uran Biir classes are held in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. They span visual art and pre-college experiences to provide students with stimulating opportunities for personal development and growth. We focus on providing students with a rich and diverse inter-cultural experience within the arts, offering an engaging cross-disciplinary practice that utilizes visual arts to investigate weekly assigned themes inspired by a particular culture of focus.
Throughout the school year, students are introduced to a variety of art mediums and techniques while learning about different styles of art with strong reference to classic and contemporary art history. Each semester ends in a culminated final student group art in Denver.
Students join our school from various skill levels but learn to produce quality projects from which they start to build individual portfolios. We also offer advanced curriculum to high school students preparing for college. Our classes allow young artists to challenge their way of seeing and thinking by way of exploring their collective interests to help foster strong independent creative voices as an important tool for learning and appreciating the beauty that surround us.
